they had a show 30 years of Hip Hop on at about 11 showing how hip hop got started, and I fell asleep at about 11:30 and it was on till 12. They had all the ol skool on there. I should have put it on dvd I knew I was going to fall asleep.... I mean any and everybody was on there. and you guys know my favorite..Busy Bee, love bug starski , devine sounds... and alot of stories of how everything got started, even how scratching got started, (by accident)....man I am pissed right now.. cant find out on the web if it's comming on again...ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... Smooov(3 O's)
keep in mind they have like three different shows. watch them all. and you know I will be putting these on dvd. all 3 of them... the back in the day episode I see was the one on last night......
Not to be a jerk, but that came out about 2 years ago...
Russell Simmons and Bill Adler had a lot to do with the production of that joint so, as you would expect, there's a little too much time focused on Def Jam's artists and history.
I remember seing those shows...I think.. Were they like back in the day, bring the noise, etc.? Speaking of Sugar Hill, was this the show that featured Sylvia Robinson (the founder of Sugar Hill)?-Old school RNB bonus points-Name her biggest hit as a singer..But I digress..
Anyway, is this the show where she went into a pizza joint, and big bank hank, who worked there, was jamming some Cold Crush Brothers (he 'managed 'them at the time) and was spittin' Grandmaster Caz's lines, and they went outside, and then, WonderMike, who didn't even KNOW hank, happened to be passing by, and jumped into the cypher, and the rest was history?
Yo, let's see if we can build up some kinda knowledge base of interesting old school tidbits; For instance, has anybody ever seen RUN-DMC and Kool Moe DEE/Special K battle? Well, they did (it was fake) It was on this show that only came on once-Graffiti Rock! Check out the DVD, it has all kinda cool stuff, including some "basement party footage"-A must have for ol' schoolers...
Wanna know the inside scoop on ol' school battles? check out "war on wax"
And last, but not least, my FAVORITE ol'school DVD-THE FRESHEST KIDS!!!!!!-B-boying footage, historical commentary-JUST PLAIN OLD FRESH!!!! also, theres a video of grandmaster Caz ripping over a modified rappers delight beat-Dope!
I caught some of it too, and yes the oldschool(repeat from two weeks ago) was by far the best..and you guys ARE right they spent too much time on SHG..But you KNOW I ain't hattin because "Apache" is my joint.. But It will be a great teaching tool to have on dvd.. let us know when you get it up and where we can get a copy.. oldschool to oldschool.. i got some youngins to school..(Algoflash)
