oldschoolive plays a bunch of old school artists, but what about adding sir mix alot, tone loc, hammer, 2live crew, father mc, etc to the playlist? What does everyone think?
Even if they are too commercial, aren't they a part of rap history?
How about adding them to the request list, but not play unless requested? is something like that possible?
Twice in the past I had listeners vote on the issue, and both times it was voted not to add them. And it's kind of a touchy subject. There are some people that said "I could see adding Tone Loc, but not any of the rest of them." There there are other people that might say, "I could see adding Sir-Mix-Alot, but none of the rest of them..."
So now, it's not like I can add one and not another... Especially after everyone was able to vote for each artist separately, and they all were voted off! lol
"Even if they are too commercial, aren't they a part of rap history?"
That's a very valid question - but the question should really be: "aren't they a part of Hip Hop history?" Alot of hip hop heads will argue no...
"How about adding them to the request list, but not play unless requested? is something like that possible?"
Unfortunately, that's not possible. Those artists would have to be in the playlist for them to be able to be requested. If there were no requests, the system will randomly play songs, and those artists could possibly be played without being requested.
But lets let this be the final decision... What does everone else think about this???

i'm not a big fan of all them either, but i can understand why some people would want them on there - how about just put on a couple songs from each artist - like only a couple of the real popular ones. oh, and don't forget adding young mc too...
I think they should be left off the playlist. As a matter for fact, there's a few people that ARE on the playlist that should have been left off too: Digital Underground, Too Short, Skeelo - But at least they're not as bad as the ones you guys are talkin about. PLEASE DONT DO IT UNEQ!
I can see what you mean. I'm a big JazzyJeff & Fresh Prince fan, and they are quite commercial, but also a big part of Hip-Hop history helping to get it wher eit is today.
Brand New Funk is a classic Hip Hop Joint and im glad I've heard it on this station
yea, jazzy jeff & the fresh prince were on the commercial tip, but I don't think they are even in the same boat as sir mix-a-lot, tone loc, hammer, young mc, and all those cats.
jeff & prince had their share of dope cuts.
the other ones we're talking about were just wack.
I've never actually heard any Tone Loc stuff, but Hammer and Sir Mix Alot were pretty much one hit wonders (Less with Hammer) and will always be remembered for their party joints rather than good tunes.
I guess with JazzyJeff & Fresh Prince however, they too had partay joints, but they also had Summertime which is an altime classsic and Jeff being one of the best DJ's around at that time and probably still now. Will Smith may have gone all hollywood but still has his skills as an MC but on the fun scale.
im sure everyone thinks of Baby Got Back when they think of Sir Mix Alot...but what about Posse on Broadway! That was the joint! Very good track, and that is a song that I wouldn't mind seeing on here...

You might feel that way, but some people like this guy feel like this:

LOL - me personally, 'My posse's on broadway' is the only one by Sir MixaLot I can even think about playing on this station. - That is - if enough people want to hear it...

Ha! guess that guy feels really strong about that! I never really cared much bout SIr Mix Alot...but guess my theory of what is considered hiphop music history, i guess would be the songs and videos that were played on sat morning at 10:00 on MTV with Fab Five Freddy on the original MTV Raps back in the late 80's.......Either that or got to go with the Rap's 20th anniversary concert that was on pay perview in 1989..I think I still have it on tape somewhere...I'm happy with the playlists here...
