Name the records that were used to sample the following Sugar Hill hits: 1. Rappers Delight(sugar hill gang) 2. Freedom(Flash/Furious 5) 3. Apache(sugar hill gang)
1) Chic 'Good Times'
2) Freedom 'Get Up and Dance'
3) Incredible Bongo Band 'Apache'
...although, I don't think you can technically say that the music for 'Rapper's Delight' and 'Apache' were samples, per se' - live bands were used to interpolate the OG versions.
I read something from one of the Crash Crew who said that when they did the beat for 'High Power Rap' - which also uses 'Get Up and Dance' - they actually sat down and physically spliced that break (on tape) together, over and over! Now, that's some dedication to your music!
I tried to get you with a trick question. Actually, none of sugar hill's music was ever sampled, it was all done by the house band, even the message, which was an attemt (musically) to answer planet rock.
Yo, tdawg, I remember reading that the Bee Gee's did the same thing (splicing a drum part) for one of the Saturday Night Fever joints..One of theese days, I'm gonna listen real close and try to figure out which songs were involved.
