Why are you here?
Permalink Closed

Alright y'all, this is from tha' heart,,,

Why are you here? i mean, most of us 'stumbled' across this site one way or another, but what makes us frequent the community?

Is it just an attempt  to recapture our youth?

Or, if were not actually "old heads', is it just an attempt to be"true"?

Well, as for me, I just love all things old school.

My son is graduating from high school, and I constantly argue with him about "music".(most of his jams use samples from my youth)

I mean, is it just me, or does the music from the late70's-late 80's simply rock?

I try to keep current, but somthing seems to be missing....

Jamie foxx(jamie foxx?) has a hot album?

Unpridictable is cool, untill you REALLY listen.. It's a pretty stupid song...

Sure, we had Double Dutch Bus, and Pac Man Feverm but they were never meant to be taken seriously.

I don't see hpw people today can fall in love....

I hate to sound like a crotchedy old man, but there is NO substance to todays music..

I love OSL because it's about the music, the vibe, the memories..

 I AM OLD SCHOOL!

DJ UnEq Note: I edited this post by request of dj odyssey to fix a typo...

I stumbled here also, love it and stayed, and besides,

IT, IT AINT NOTHING LIKE HIP HOP MUSIC...

YOU LIKE IT CAUSE YOU CHOOSE IT...

MOST DJ'S WON'T REFUSE IT...

ALOT OF SUCKA MC'S MISUSE IT...

DON'T THINK THAT STET CAN LOSE IT...

TOO MUCH TO GAIN TO ABUSE IT...

THE NAME OF THE GAME IS RAPTURE...

THIS SONG IS COMPLETE AND CAPTURED...

BREAK, BREAK, BREAK....THE HIP HOP BAND-STETSASONIC "GO BROOKLYN 3" 1991

P.S....we've had alot of silly songs if you really listened to the lyrics, but the thing about it, old school you can listen to forever...

I didn't stumble here, I was Looking for All thing Oldschool when it came to music, As a oldschool dj and former radio dj(college) i know that most of the music is looped and usually has to follow some sort of list or format. I'm oldschool and that All I know and want to know. I too Have a son that graduated high school and I wouldn't even try to get with him on the music stuff. He has his and I have mine so I leave it that way...I just don't see the need to get into alot of the music that's out today because 9 times out of 10 you'll hear a sample of an oldschool original so I say, "why buy the knockoff, when the original was bangin by itself", So I go Rock the Oldschool... Let's do the Carwash, Two cars pull up, one rocking 50cents, the other Bangin Rock Box(DMC) Or even pull up playing Planet rock, You tell me who's gonna be there the longest and who's gonna get the most hype? doesn't matter what their driving It's all about the oldschool...Like I said I'm ALL OLDSCHOOL ALL The TIME!!! Like Now and Laters and pixie sticks, with a Cold Yahoo..and bag of funyons on the seat.... I wish Uneq, Rocked More that just Hip-hop, cause he would Have the Hottest Oldschool Joint on Line. OSL is Nice that's why I come back Repeatly and that's why i hit the boards in the community.. it's old and that's where I 'm from...

well i was surfing live365 when i found old school live and its just refreshing to encapsulate that feeling of old school hip hop... my teenage years were pretty good and my love for the music was always present in my life....so i wouldnt say recapturing our youth... that loyalty for the music that we listen to on here is as strong as it was when we were breaking/listening/partying/tagging/etc back then.  i say its just rapture...the part that completes the circle..

oh and i see you guys are going back...  what about the evil kneivel you use to rev up

coconut long boys candy, root beer barrels, good & plenty, rolos, whachamacallit, shaven ice or even frozen cups.....

oh and dont forget the sit and spin, big wheels and the green machines

ROLLING ON 10'S WITH THE BIG WHEELS LOL....

OH AND IF YOU RUN OVER SOMEONES FEET WITH THOSE IRON SKATES YOULL GOTO JAIL FOR THAT TODAY! LOL

The "Screen Door" and "that's My Car" were our thing back in my day...cigerettes were 50 cents, and you could get a dollar's worth of bologna from the corner store.. We would collect bottles to go to the penny store and rack up for a quarter.. And, My mother had a game that i'm sure I wasn't the only one who played, It was called the "Street Light" LOL, I know You're Laughing on the Floor with that one..But you know if that street light caught you, game was over and Mamma was playing anymore.....Holla at me..

HAHAHA!

Man! Y'all are killing me over here...

Kimba?
My mother said there was no way I could be disturbed when this was on - the walls could come tumbling down around me and I would never notice when this show was on...

The Green Machine?
I remember my rich (well, not really rich, but he was the one in the family that had more money than anybody else in the family, thus he was rich to us) uncle hooking me up with one of these for my birthday...
I can still hear the TV commercial for it, too:

8, 9, 10 year olds...old enough for Green Machine!!!

Speaking of Big Wheels, wassup with all of 'em eventually getting that flat spot on the front wheel because you used it to break instead of that stupid handle-brake on the back wheel (which usually broke off not long after the seat did...I don't think a Big Wheel in my neighborhood had a seat on it)

" Come on world, there's a song that wer'e singin', We'll make you happy,

A whole lot of singin' is what we'll be bringin', c'mon get happy"......(who sang this?)

"Once upon a summers day, just a dream from far away, a boy and his magic flute, saw a boat across the bay.....

come and play with me, Jimmy, come and play with me, and I will take you for a trip, far across the sea....

But the boat belonged to a kooky old witch, who had in mind the flute to snitch, SHE WAVED HER WAND, AND THE BEUTIFUL BOAT WAS GONE!-The sky grew dark, the sea grew rough, and the boat sailed on and on and on.......

But Puffenstuff was watching too, and knew exatly what to do...He called his rescue ranger crew, as often they'ed rehearsed, and off to save the boy they flew-But who would get there first?

H.R. PUFFENSTUFF, WHO'S YOUR FRIEND WHEN THINGS GET ROUGH? H.R. PUFFENSTUFF, YOU CAN'T GET A LITTLE IF YOU CAN'T GET ENOUGH........"

WHAT?

We must have lived in the same hood, cause My bigwheel had a flat spot and no seat..Show me a bigwheel that had a saet and no flat spot and I'll show you a bigwheel that hadn't been broke in.. you could do half that stuff with it if you had a seat.. You know you had to stand up on the back to push yourseld around and then sit down once you got going, so you had to modify it somewhat..my front wheel was cracked and had rockes inside if it that made for and even more realistic sound.. HAHAHA..I feel ya on the green machine, only those wit money could get one, so you had to be kool with them til it broke..The Days!!

Well I don't know if this is the spot to introduce myself, but i am tc69. I am no dj or MC I am just a hip hop fan who's been down since day one. I grew up listening to sugar hill, funky four, grand master flash, etc.  I stumbled on this website actually today I was google searching Chubb Rock while sitting here at work listening to his cd and i wanted to see what's he been up and seen this website, so I peeped and felt like it was a cool website because it's what I am all about old school. I do listening to some current stuff but there is not alot out there that impresses me, so I do alot of diggin.

Music like Curtis Mayfield, Teddy Pendergrass, Barry White, Otis Redding, Chilites (excuse my spelling fam) Temptation, that was my moms generation which I loved listening too back then and today, but like some of the group I mention, my mom though was just noise and was always yelling for us to turn it down.

If ya'll don't mind me asking what is the age ranges on this board?

There's more in the middle of an Egg McMuffin than an egg in the middle of a muffin...
[Speaking of that, remember when McDonald's didn't open until lunchtime?]

OLD SCHOOL DC/MD/VA

-Morton's commercials
Morton's CRAAAAAAZY DAYS! Boy jeans, 3 pairs for $15...at all 6 Morton's - going on til Labor Day!!!

-
Captain Chesapeake
For you B'more heads (and those of us in VA with a dope set of rabbit ears)...

-Captain 20
For you DC metro area heads...and don't forget, he played the Count later in the night on 20's 'Creature Feature'

-Geno's
I'm not sure about everywhere else, but in my part of VA, this was the only place to get KFC...
Nothing like a Geno Giant and 3-piece Snack Pack (with a soft dinner roll...not that biscuit) to go!

-People's Drug Store

-Dart Drug
If you were lucky, you had a Super Dart around the way.

-Memco

-Channel 7 used to have afternoon movies, everyday at 4pm.
Monster Week was always the best.

Damn...

Ha, maaaaan!
How did I forget about Roy Rogers? Remember when some of them had a statue of Trigger the horse out front? How about the free 'autographed' picture of Roy and Trigger you could get...

If you had a bike, you knew you better watch it close and take care of it cuz, once it was gone, you weren't getting another...
What was the easiest, cheapest way to get a new bike?
You got yourself a can of Krylon, broke that bad boy down one afternoon and made yourself a 'new' bike.

Remember that joint that used to come on Saturday mornings called 'In The News'? It was on CBS and they ran that joint in between cartoon show - I always remember it after 'Fat Albert' (especially since that was the last cartoon of the day). It was like a short little news thing for kids and it started off with that spinning graphic of a globe and that weird 'music' that went deedeedeeedle-deedeedeele...

Here he comes, here comes Speed Racer, he's a demon on wheels!!!

Haha...Toughskins!!!
Who had those jeans called 'Plain Pockets'? Was it JC Penney's?

Don't forget, it's easy to match when you have Garanimals - Hippo goes with hippo...giraffe goes with giraffe etc..

What happened to Boo-Berry cereal???
You used to be able to get that joint year-round but now it only comes out at Halloween - and believe me, I stock up on that joint every October!
There were so many bomb cereals back in the day...Crazy Cow...Quisp...Kaboom...
Notice how they no longer put 'sugar' in the title of 'em anymore...

Super Sugar Crisp?
NAH!
Now it's Golden Crisp - but Sugar Bear is still pimpin...

Sugar Smacks?
NAH!
Plain ole 'Smacks' now...

'Schoolhouse Rock'...it's on DVD and I've got it! Definitely worth picking up...

Dang! Ya'll hit me off with some joints there....school house rock! my two farvorites were when they sang "zero my hero!" and " I am just bill, I am only bill and I am sitting here on capitol hill!"

Do you remember the old cartoons when they use show the hulk, spiderman, captain america, Iron Man? I remember this tv station in Chicago (channel 44 in my area) use to show them.

What about these: Six Million Dollar Man, Emergency, Adam 12 (I think)....remember on the six million dollar man when they had him up against Big Foot? And when they met up to fight and they stop it and it said to be continued and you had to wait until next season to pick up where they left off man I was mad when they did that.

Hahahaha! Someone said the Brooooooooooooown Horrrrrrrrneeeeeettt!!!

I don't know if any of you had older brothers or sister, but I remember when moms grocery shopping and for the cereal she would get one good brand like Captain Crunch and some ol nasty plain corn flakes and my oldest brother would hide the Captain Crunch and leave us with the corn flakes.
