Somebody please tell me what ever happened to the oldschool parties? block parties, basement parties, for those of you who remember back that far. Did the new school hip hop change the game as far as parties go? it seems like everything has gone straight club, which is aight for the dj, but for us old heads we still remember that basement or block party that set it off for us. Can anybody relate? How do we make the oldschool come back? I've been thinking bout doing a oldschool skate party where I live, but I'm not sure if it will compete with this new school club stuff....

Maybe we can get 'The Big Cheese" to start up a Friday or Saturday night mix show....

As far as parties go, I think this whole newfangled "V.I.P." thing is taking all of the fun out of live hip-hop.(what I mean is, I worked a Nelly show, and V.I.P.s paid a premium, so that they could chill in the balcony, which was far from the stage, and participate in a "meet & Greet" session after the show.)

In other words, I feel that there is too much postering (like buying the bar) and not enough partying.

it has been like that in miami for at least the past 10 years... and im glad i dont club as much... i used to toss 40 bucks out the window like it was nothing just to be in vip... dont get me wrong i would come up on something nice but you could easily burn a hundred (honey bee) just for a moment in time...i guess change comes with age...

I miss the basement parties also, but that was in a different time...remember when pay phones were a dime...bus rides were 50 cent...gas wasn't even a dollar a gallon yet...when new "kicks" were no more than about $35.00...british walkers were hot....the light blue pumas with the white stripe... the ref adidias...the cazals... when rap battles were just words, not guns.. We were wanting to be like the rappers of our time... now the kids want to be like the rappers of present time.. which most are just studio gangsters and the kids don't even know that....alot of kids nowadays carry guns everywhere they go.. can you ever remember carrying a gun to a party... or was it some of your own records to spin, or a mic to rip up just incase the dj's mic was "whack" or as an extra for a battle.. These times we live in are way different from ours...The last house party I went to was back in '86 my homeboy was getting into it with this guy, then the guy pulled out a "revolver" put it to my homeboys head, didn't pull the trigger, but after that... it was a "rap" for me... even if you were to host a house party some fool would "F" it up...Then dont forget about the liability issue. ..If someone were to get shot or beat up in your house, they would try to sue the hell out of you..for not having security. We are also living in the "lawsuit" age...things also happen at clubs but they have security, and insurance for those things to get covered...But boy do I miss grindin with a honey in the dark part of the basement....damn I might just give my old "princess pop" a call..she's still down with me after 22 years....now thats pimp'n...

Smoov, I'm glad somebody here fills my pain, even if it is a new day and age. All this VIP crap is taking the game out of partying. I remember when vip back in the day was just getting there early enough to watch everybody else come in and getting first dibs on the good honies...But now, I don't think anybody really cares about the party anymore, besides who comes and what they're wearing...WHO Cares!!! Party meant just that ....PARTY
