Anyone see this show? I'm glad to see the Old School getting their propers.

How do you feel about Wu-Tang getting honored? I think there are older Old Schoolers who deserve it just as much - maybe Treacherous Three, Kool Moe Dee, De La Soul, Doug E Fresh ... I'm not trying to diminish Wu-Tang though - they sell lotsa records and are talented MCs and definitely deserve it.

BTW, Kid Capri rocked the party. Mixmaster Mike was hot on the 1's and 2's but can't move the crowd like Capri.

JM808, I tried to get this post in while the show was running but my router went down. That's how po'd i was after watching that whole beastie boy part. that ruined the whole show for me. from the dj who can't mix for crap to diddy(who i just plain hate on) with fabulous and q-tip, which I thought was a crappy mix to put those three together, to the performance by the orginals them self. I wasn't a big beastie boy fan back in the day and I REALLY don't dig them today, they should have known when to bow out..

I did enjoy how they let MC Lyte and Rakim tell their stories, but getting new jacks to rep their stuff wasn't all that impressive. I WAS lookin for Capri to cut loose and do his thing. But He's still the man to me.. Wu. they were aight. WU as usual...Overall I just wasn't impressed with the whole show, I agree with you, there are tons of oldschoolers that should be getting their HONORS and are not.. That's why we have to do our thing to keep OLDSCHOOL ALIVE!!

I don't understand where these nominations come from...

One thing that really got me -
Why would they 'honor' Eazy E and Ice Cube separately? Wouldn't a nod to NWA - who, in my opinion, made a bigger impact on hip-hop than Eazy and Cube combined.

I pretty much only tuned in to see Rakim. His performance, just like the other times I've seen him, was pretty boring. Also, much respect to Kid Capri, but a smooth, laid-back delivery like Rakim's does not need the DJ hollering the hooks louder than the MC - if at all! I had to change the channel midway thru his performance...

Oops...

I never finished my thought.

Dawg, I'm with you on that, there are too many other artists that should have gotten props but instead they chose to seperate cube and easy which i think Too was a bad call..Like I said before, I think the show as a whole was WAAAAAYYYYYY OOFFFFF!! beside Rakim, MC Lyte, Bambada, the show was a BUST to me..they didn't REALLY honor hip hip with that show, they just gave the new jacks tv time to do some of the oldschool legally.. I think some of these artist should just stick to their OWN cuts and leave the oldschool to the oldschoolers.. who KNOW how to rock the mic and move the crowd.. and YES, Kid capri did do too much cuttin in on rakim.. That's his major flaw.. his talking on the mixes.. JUst do your thing and done talk... I still give him much props..

Yeah...

Honestly, I only caught him with Rakim and I saw the laptop with the Serato vinyl...didn't see him the rest of the show.

I feel you on honoring NWA instead of Eazy and Cube separate ... honors Dre at the same time too. Guess maybe they want to save Dre for another show???

my guess for why they honored eazy and ice cube seperately is because if they did nwa theyd have to include mc ren and dre. mc ren never really did anything aside from nwa and dre will probably have his own ceremonial show in the near future.  ( i dont have any inside information im just guessin)

The point I'm trying to make is, is that it's about the impact they had as a collective. The individual solo efforts have no bearing on NWA as a group.

Professor Griff and Flavor Flav haven't really done anything aside from Public Enemy. Does that mean PE shouldn't be recognized?

See what I'm trying to say?

I STILL say that there are too many artists from back in the day that paved the way for nwa as a group and seperately that aren't getting their props and the ones that do, some youngin just gets to "spotlight" him or her so they can legally sample their stuff on stage. I still think it all sucks the way they so call "spotlight" our oldschool artists.

I feel what your saying...
But, don't get me wrong - I'm not on some NWA bandwagon or anything. I'm just stating that, in my opinion, it makes more sense to highlight NWA as a group instead of Cube and Eazy seperately.

Of course, if you think in linear terms, there's are a lot more groups from the old school that should get their props. But, with a show like this, it's not in chronological order - they wouldn't get the ratings...

I agree with ya. Plus not to mention the nw schoolers that would never get their time on stage singing some of the oldschool stuff legally for a chance.. Any way we look at it, we'll never get all the recognition that we deserve for our oldschool.. too many new jacks in the game now..
