In Level 3 of the Hip Hop quiz I created, I had a multiple choce question asking:
2. Who is known to be the inventor of turntable scratching?
a) Grand Wizard Theodore b) Grandmaster Flash c) DJ Charlie Chase d) Kool Herc
Someone who completed level 3 of the quiz wrote the following message:
Date: 2004-10-12 18:42:52 Name: Rob Location: Completed Level 3! A FREAKIN' GURU!!!
One question is questionable. i.e.
Who is considered the master of the scratch? DJ Kool Herc in an interview stated that he was the first to scratch. I also saw an interview where Grandwizard Theodore was playing a record and his mother in the other room called out to him. He placed his finger on the record and to stop the music and the vibration of his hand created a scratch sound. He then expanded on that. Who really get's credit? Flash also staed that he was the 1st.
Now, I never heard Kool Herc say he was the originator... I have heard interviews with Flash saying he started it... But I've seen and heard from alot of sources that Grand Wizard Theodore created the scratch. So here's where I ask everyone that reads this to put their 2 cents in! :)
Who do YOU think was the inventor of the SCRATCH???

yea- when Herc started out, he would just play a record, stop it, get the crowd into it, and start playing them again, much like the "Sound Selectors" do in jamaica... I've never heard him scratch back in that day. So I think it's safe to say we can leave him out of the mix.
As for the other 2, I don't know for certain, but while doing some research on the web, I'm seeing Theodore.
